Five bangles, one colour palette, one metal tone. Here's how we build a festive wooden bangle stack, with real Hashtack sets from ₹499.

To build a festive wooden bangle stack, decide three things before you pick anything up: one colour story, an odd number of bangles, and a single metal tone that runs through the whole stack. Five bangles on one wrist, with one gold or antique-gold band for every two wooden ones, is the formula we come back to most.

And it works. Polished dark wood picks up warm festive light the way gold does, at a fraction of the weight. Indian interest in wooden bangles has jumped too: Google Trends shows searches climbing from almost nothing in 2024 to their highest point in late August 2026.

Below is the short version of how we put stacks together at our studio, with the real pieces from our wooden bangles collection.

Quick answer: the festive stack formula

  • Count: 5 bangles on one wrist. Go down to 3 on a slim wrist, up to 7 if you're wearing little else.
  • Colour: one palette only. Maroon with dark wood and gold, black with natural wood and gold, or earthy wood with a single teal or amber pop.
  • Metal: one tone, gold or antique gold. Roughly one metal band for every two wooden ones.
  • Order: widest piece in the middle, metal on either side of it, slim wood at the edges.

How many bangles should a festive wooden stack have?

Five is the sweet spot. Odd numbers read as one deliberate stack, while four bangles often look like two pairs that happened to meet.

Wooden bangles are usually wider than thin metal ones, so a wooden stack fills out faster than you'd expect. Here's how we'd size it:

Your wrist and look Bangles What goes in
Slim wrist, or a heavily worked sleeve 3 1 chunky wood, 1 slim wood, 1 metal band
Most festive looks 5 1 wide centrepiece, 2 metal or studded, 2 slim wood
Bare arms, very little other jewellery 7 1 centrepiece, 2 metal, 3 wood, 1 colour pop

One practical thing first. Wood doesn't stretch or flex, so size matters more than with a mixed stretch stack. Many of our wooden bangles are size 2.6, about 6 cm across the inside, and each product page lists its size. If you're unsure, our bangle size guide takes two minutes and a strip of paper.

Which colours make a festive wooden bangle stack look rich?

Deep, warm colours next to wood plus one metal. That's it. India has coloured wood for generations; Channapatna artisans, for example, melt coloured lac onto lathe-turned wood, which is why a glossy colour band beside raw grain feels so familiar. These are the three palettes we'd build from.

1. Maroon, mahogany and gold

The most festive of the three, and the easiest to get right. Burgundy resin or glossy maroon against dark wood looks rich without trying.

2. Black, natural wood and gold

Sharper and a little more modern. Glossy black gives the wood an edge, and the gold keeps it festive.

3. Earthy wood with one colour pop

Our favourite, honestly. Keep everything brown and gold, then add one teal or amber piece close to the wrist bone. We'd skip matching every bangle to your outfit; one piece that doesn't quite match makes a stack look chosen rather than bought in one go.

How much metal should you mix with wood?

About one metal band for every two wooden bangles, and only one metal tone. Brass studs count as metal too, so a studded wooden bangle can do the job of a separate gold band.

We lean towards antique gold over bright yellow gold with dark wood. It's softer, and it sits with the grain instead of shouting over it. If you love shine, keep it to one bright piece.

More wood-and-metal mixes live in our wooden and brass bangle sets, two-tone wood and metal bangles, wood and gold stackable bangles and studded bangles. If you'd rather add a plain metal band, pick one from our brass bangles and cuffs.

One honest warning. Metal is harder than polished wood. Over a few weeks of daily wear, a metal band rubbing against a glossy wooden bangle can leave fine marks on the wood. It doesn't hurt the bangle, but if one piece is your favourite, give it a slim wooden neighbour rather than a metal one.

How do you stack bangles in the right order for a festive wooden bangle stack?

Build from the middle out. This is the order we use:

  1. Pick a centrepiece. Your widest or most detailed bangle goes in the middle, for example the Wooden Aura Bangles (₹799) or one from our chunky bangles.
  2. Frame it with metal. One gold or studded band on each side.
  3. Finish with slim wood. Thin pieces from our slim wooden bangle sets or hand-turned round bangles go on the outer edges.
  4. Place the colour pop nearest your hand, where people actually see it.
  5. Do the comfort test. Wiggle your fingers and bend your wrist. If the stack climbs or pinches, take one bangle off.

Wearing a watch? Keep it on the other wrist. Bangles knocking against a watch face all evening can scratch the glass.

How do you keep a wooden stack looking new after the festivities?

Keep it dry and keep it away from perfume. Every wooden piece we sell carries that same care line, and festive weeks bring both: attar, hair oil and lots of hand-washing.

  • Put the stack on after perfume and lotion, not before.
  • Take it off before washing hands or showering. If it gets wet, pat it dry straight away.
  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing, and store each set in its own pouch so metal and wood don't rub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we wear bangles in one hand?

Yes. A one-wrist stack is how we style almost every wooden set, and it's easier to manage than two full arms. Wear five bangles on one wrist and keep the other bare, or give it a single slim piece or your watch. One wrist also means less wood-on-metal rubbing over a long festive day.

How many bangles should you wear daily compared with festive days?

For everyday wear, two or three slim wooden bangles are plenty and won't catch on desks or bags. On festive days go up to five, adding a wide centrepiece and gold bands. Seven only works when you're wearing very little other jewellery, otherwise the arm starts to compete with the earrings and necklace.

Can you mix wooden and gold bangles?

Yes, and it's what makes a wooden stack read as festive. Keep to one gold tone, roughly one gold band for every two wooden ones. Antique gold blends into dark wood more naturally than bright yellow gold, so start there if you're unsure. Our Golden Harmony set is a ready-made example of the ratio.

How do I stack chunky wooden bangles without them looking bulky?

Use one chunky bangle, not three. Put it in the middle and frame it with slim pieces, so the eye has one place to land. If your wrist is slim, a three-bangle stack with a single chunky centrepiece usually looks better than five. Take one off if the stack slides past your wrist bone.

What size are Hashtack wooden bangles?

Many of our wooden bangles are size 2.6, which is about 6 cm across the inside. Wood doesn't stretch, so check your size before you order. Our bangle size guide shows how to measure at home with a strip of paper in about two minutes, and each product page lists its size.
